I'm Nikk, a member of the Liverpool Wargames Association and a card carrying geek. Recently, a few of us have started to get back into WH40k, starting with me and my mate Mal. Picking up an army (and a gaming table, which involved an adventure out to a B&Q in the middle of nowhere, before phoning a taxi to get us back - a very nice Hindu fella turned up and, slightly doddering, helped us remove the chairs from the back of his taxi so we could slide the 6' x 4' behind his seat. That's one way to earn a frickin' huge tip), I'm now living the boyhood dream of owning a Tyranid army. That dream was a result of attending a Games Day way back in '92 or '93 when 40k was still 1st or 2nd edition. I was at the seminar where they discussed genestealers, and revealed that genestealers (at that time the forefront of Spacehulk; they featured in an army list only in the genestealer cult lists of WD #114-116) were just a small attack force sent by the mighty Tyranid race ahead of their fleets. As a kid it was kinda cool to get the inside scoop, and so I had to fall in love with the little bugs.
So armed with a Tyranid army list, and my mate armed with his Eldar list, we've got stuck in to a few, irregularly played, games. (And, back up north in Liverpool there are other armies for me to play against, namely Leo's army of Imperial Guard and we also rummaged around old boxes of figures that have lain around the wargaming club for a decade or so, managing to muster a large ork force and about two space marine armies). As I get stuck into the game, along with painting and modelling, I figured it was worthwhile starting a blog dedicated to it. Because that's what it takes to be an uber geek: you need a blog as a badge. And the other boyhood dream I had was to be an uber geek...
